Skinfood New Zealand Skincare

12 April 2016

I have been putting this post together for a long time, literally months! Skincare is something that isn't easy to see immediate results - obviously some results are easier to see than others! I have been testing out some of the Skinfood New Zealand Skincare and I have to say I am surprised at the results.

Skinfood have been around since 2003 and they really pack their products with some seriously good stuff! Their ingredients are also sustainably sourced which is SO important to our environment.

Skinfood products are free from...
Parabens
GMO’s
Sulphates
Artificial colours
Nano ingredients
Dioxins
Triclosan
Toxic Minerals
Sodium Laurel Sulphate (SLS)
Sodium Laureth Sulphate (SLES)

Skinfood products are certified Organic by Ecocert - Ecocert was the first inspection & certification body to develop standards for Natural and Organic products all around the world. Skin food products are also approved by the Vegetarian Society and have recyclable packaging!

The four products I will be talking about are the Nourishing Moisturiser, Exfoliating Scrub, Mud Masque & Renew Coco+nut Oil. I have also tried quite a few other products but I thought I would share my opinions on these four in particular.

The Nourishing Moisturiser ($13.99 NZD) is perfect for anyone who has ever wondered "which moisturiser will suit my skin?" as it isn't  too heavy but it is still nourishing! I have fairly normal skin that can get dry and I use the Nourishing Moisturiser as my daily moisturiser! My fiancĂ© has quite dehydrated oily skin and he loves to use the Nourishing Moisturiser because it isn't greasy and is quickly absorbed but still leaves your skin feeling hydrated - you know it's good when it's approved by a picky man!

The Nourishing Moisturiser contains:
Goji berry extract - With minerals including calcium, iron, selenium, potassium, selenium and zinc, goji berries help to maintain skin’s tautness and elasticity and are also essential to the skin’s ability to heal and regenerate itself. Goji berries help improve skin tone and color, skin hydration and decrease inflammation.
Apricot oil - This nut oil is rich in skin-conditioning vitamin E and is known for its soothing, nourishing and revitalising properties and also for its ability to penetrate the skin without leaving it feeling oily.
Blackcurrant oil - Pressed from blackcurrant seeds, this oil has regenerative properties and is widely used in anti-bacterial, anti-oxidant and anti-wrinkle treatments. Effective for dry, damaged and aging skin, it is also excellent for sensitive skin, eczema or psoriasis.

The Exfoliating Scrub ($13.95 NZD) is a granular exfoliant, normally I tent to avoid granular exfoliants as they are quite damaging to the skin. I did ask my therapist before using and she said that the granules are fine enough to not be damaging! I like to use the Exfoliating Scrub maybe twice a week and I feel a great difference to my skin! I get rough & dry patches from my dehydrated skin and this Exfoliating Scrub makes my skin nice and smooth.
This exfoliator is my fiancés favourite product to steal!

The Exfoliating Scrub contains:
Walnut shell - Walnut shells are ground to fine particles; they come as light brown particles which are clearly visible in a cream and ideal as a superb body exfoliator. Their hardness makes them a really effective natural body scrub coping efficiently with even thick deposits of dead surface skin.
Cucumber extract - Containing vitamin A, C, E and K, cucumber extract helps repairing your skin. It also contains minerals such as magnesium, silica and potassium that helps reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. The soothing and cooling properties of the cucumber fruit extract help to calm the skin.
Lime oil - Lime oil rejuvenates the skin, protects it from infections and keeps it shining. The antiseptic and infection busting properties of lime, coupled to the astringent effect that this oil has, makes it valuable in helping to clear oily skin and acne as well as toning and restoring the skin.

The Mud Masque ($13.99 NZD) is my absolute favourite product from Skinfood! If anyone ever asks for a Mud Masque recommendation I ALWAYS suggest this one. I feel like this masque is beneficial for all skin types. You can see the Mud Masque working as it draws excess oils from your skin leaving little dots and spots of oil on the dry mud! After using this masque your skin feels so soft and any break outs or aggravated skin is visibly smaller and calm.

The Mud Masque features:
Jojoba oil - Jojoba oil comes from the beans of the shrub like plant, simmondsia chinensis. Jojoba oil has excellent emollient properties to soothe and rehydrate the skin without clogging the pores. It also protects the skin from drying out with pro-vitamin A and vitamin E, soothing, strengthening and regulating the amount of sebum your skin makes.
Apricot oil - This nut oil is rich in skin-conditioning vitamin E and is known for its soothing, nourishing and revitalising properties and also for its ability to penetrate the skin without leaving it feeling oily.
Spirulina - Known as one of the “super-foods”, Spirulina helps to restore skin health and hydration, minimise pesky fine lines and wrinkles around your eyes and mouth, increase skin elasticity and help correct UV damage.

It took me a little while to warm up to the Renew Oil ($23.99 NZD) because I have so many other great beauty oils - Jojoba, Rosehip - but when I read the ingredients I was so surprised by the amazing combination! The Renew Oil is also perfect for pretty much anything... You can use it as a moisturiser, as a serum, in your hair. You can use this on stretch marks and scars. I used it on my scalp when I had bad sunburn!

This oil includes:
Organic Coconut - Its natural antibacterial properties help to heal and repair skin. Rich in essential fatty acids to hydrate and nourish, coconut oil creates a natural barrier against moisture loss.
Sweet Almond - A highly emollient oil to help regulate moisture levels and stabilise the natural pH level of the skin.
Macadamia Nut - high in palmitoleic acid so benefits dry and ageing skin. It spreads easily on the skin to provide softness and protection.
Apricot Kernel - This nut oil is rich in skin-conditioning vitamin E and is known for its soothing, nourishing and revitalising properties and also for its ability to penetrate the skin without leaving an oily feel.

I have been so in love with the Skinfood range that I have been recommending them EVERYWHERE! I don't think I have mentioned how affordable they are! It's hard to find good quality skin care with good quality ingredients at an affordable price and I feel like Skinfood absolutely nailed it!
